It has been a LONG time since I've used blogger, but we are in strange, uncertain times. Hello, again!
Both of us have both been working from home, avoiding public transit, and only doing minimal necessary errands since Thursday-- so coming up on the end of five days. Thursday night we had one last food hurrah, a long-planned dinner to celebrate the 7th anniversary of our first date. Though we had already been minimizing our range of motion, we kept our dinner reservation our lovely neighbor Little Pearl. We arrived on foot and the food was creative, the wine incredible, and the service warm and gracious. We had a great time, while acknowledging that carbonara with smoked shiitake "bacon" and duck "parmesan" was probably the last meal we'd have like that for awhile.
Now that we're fully tied to our house, doing our part to #StopTheSpread, I started a little project that I'd like to call Socially Distant Cuisine. I'll document the meals we cook and eat, at home. Links to recipes (if I followed one closely enough), or key ingredients will feature prominently. I'll take photos of leftover remixes and elegantly plate things from a can. Maybe you'll get some ideas, or share some of your own?
We usually do once-a-week meal prep, and it's a ritual for us-- in the busy buzz of work weeks, it's so great to come home to delicious food that is either fully ready or close to it. Grocery shop once a week; chop all the veggies on Sunday, make marinades, soups and braises, and get ready for an easy and delicious week ahead. Come Wednesday night, Weekday Us are always thanking Weekend Us for the time and care we took. Saturday brunch is usually Hash of Something Left or dinner is Everything in the Fridge On a Pizza. It works for us.
That routine, like so many others, is now up in the air. But routines add structure and normalcy. And we always will eat, even if it means getting creative with what we have to work with. The next posts will cover the back material to get us all caught up. Then, onward, in real time!
